Introduction
In fact, English is considered to be the fastest growing international language. All institutions across the world have recognized the need for better communication in English; therefore, students are increasingly required to acquire a high level of proficiency in the use of English as an international language; and also to have theoretical knowledge of various aspects of the English structure and use. To meet the market demand for communication experts, the Department of English Language and Literature at Ibn Khaldoon College will be dedicated to the below stated Vision, mission and goals.
Vision
The Department of English Language and Literature at Ibn Khaldoon College aspires to assume a national and regional leading role in the teaching, training, and research on English language and literature.
Mission
The Department of English Language and Literature seeks to provide its undergraduate students with well-rounded quality education and accurate training in the English language and the literatures of the English-speaking world. It also aims to build up the students’ English language and thinking.
Goals
This program is to achieve the following
To provide students with broad theoretical and practical knowledge; as well as deep understanding of English language and literature
To develop students’ language and communication skills through employing a theory and technology enhanced approach to teaching listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing.
To promote students’ critical and creative thinking skills and fostering their research capabilities.
To create partnerships with the public and private sectors through conducting studies and offering consultations in the areas of English language teaching and learning.
To promote critical understanding of Western thought and the cultures of the English-speaking world,
and opening avenues for fruitful intercultural dialogue with English-speaking nations and people.
Honors’ Program
By the end of the 8th semester, the student, who successfully pass the following prescribed courses with 3.00 (CGPA) and above will be eligible for the Honour’s Degree (173 Credit Hours). However, the students who obtain less than 3.00 (CGPA) will be awarded the BA General in English language & Literature (143 Credit Hours) Letter Grade Grade point
In order to join the English language Honor’s Program, the candidate must be an English major, and have at least a 3.00 CGPA (and above) by the end of the 4th year, and be interested in taking on the challenge of honors work.
